Concurrent Launches Hornet: A Rugged, Compact Edge Computing System for Mission-Critical Defence Applications

Designed for harsh operational environments, Hornet delivers real-time compute performance and low-latency networking at the tactical edge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Concurrent, a leading provider of embedded computing solutions, has launched Hornet, a compact, rugged edge computing system engineered to meet the demanding requirements of mission-critical defence platforms. Featuring a conduction-cooled, baseplate-mounted design and high-performance Intel® and NVIDIA® processing, Hornet is optimised for real-time coordination, data processing, and control across land, sea, and air environments. With built-in support for AI inference at the edge, Hornet enables faster decision-making in mission-critical scenarios—from autonomous systems to sensor fusion and object classification.

Real-Time Power at the Tactical Edge

Hornet is built for edge deployment in environments where size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints matter most. Whether mounted in a UAV, vehicle-mounted C4ISR system, or naval platform, Hornet ensures synchronised, low-latency data exchange with its 10G TSN Ethernet capabilities—critical for modern, networked operations.

Its rugged construction and MIL-STD compliance make it suitable for extreme temperatures, vibration, and shock, while its broad I/O support enables straightforward integration across a range of defence platforms—minimising complexity and deployment risk.

“Hornet is a system built for today’s defence challenges—compact, powerful, and robust. It enables tactical decision-making by bringing high-performance computing directly to the mission edge,” said Michael Harden, VP Systems at Concurrent.

Key Features of Hornet

  • Compute and Storage: Intel Hermes processor + NVIDIA AGX IOX + removable SSD

  • Networking: 1/10G TSN Ethernet for precise, time-synchronised data transfer

  • Design: SWaP-optimised, conduction-cooled, baseplate-mounted

  • Power: 28VDC / 200W input

  • Standard I/O:

    • DisplayPort

    • GPIO

    • Ethernet (10G, 1G, TSN)

    • RS232/422/485

  • Optional I/O:

    • MIL-STD-1553

    • ARINC 429

    • CANbus

    • GPS

    • WiFi

    • RS232/422/485 (additional)

  • Form Factor: 124mm (H) × 162mm (W) × 223mm (L) | Approx. 8kg

  • Compliance: Designed to meet MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-704

Built for Versatility and Resilience

Hornet supports a wide range of mission profiles—from sensor fusion and autonomous system control to secure communications and onboard command processing. Its modularity ensures easy adaptation across multi-domain platforms, while its reliability provides confidence in the harshest operational conditions.

Concurrent continues to advance embedded computing for defence with a focus on performance, adaptability, and operational advantage. Hornet reflects this mission—enabling edge intelligence where it’s needed most.
